Mrs. Rucker taught me to read, write and think. Even after I earned a graduate degree at a prestigious university, she would see me and softly say with a warm smile, "Do you still enjoy reading?" I always felt so very special in her presence, due to the fact that her concern for me and interest in me stretched back several decades but never dimmed. I will miss her but I will also cherish the positive impact that she had on my life. Rest well, Mrs. Rucker. Thank you for pouring your talents, gifts and bottomless kindness into my life.

Mrs. Rucker was my first grade teacher at Hillcrest Elementary. She was the kindest, most patient teacher I ever met. Every day when it was time for the bell to ring she sat in a chair by the classroom door and hugged every child on their way out for the day. I loved her so much!
