SSG Adam Scott Weigel, 39, of Morristown, died December 29, 2015, at home. He was born January 30, 1976 in Morristown, the son of John and Jay Weigel. He graduated Morristown-Hamblen High School West in 1994 and attended Walters State Community College before enlisting in the United States Army. He served for many years in the Army National Guard and was employed by the U.S. Department of Defense as a heavy equipment mechanic upon his completion of two tours of duty in Iraq, where he received several Army commendation medals and awards.

Adam was preceded in death by his father, John F. Weigel; brother, Benjamin Weigel; and grandparents, John and Elizabeth Weigel and Edwin and Elizabeth Hammond. He is survived by his son, Isaak Weigel of Morristown; sister, Elizabeth Rose ‘Betsy’ Huertas (Jonathan) of Morristown; brother, Sam Weigel of Rockwood, TN; mother, Jay Weigel (Jack Glenn) of Broadway, VA; former wife, Stacy Walton of Morristown; uncles and aunts Richard Hammond (Sylvia Sze) of Berkeley, CA; Lawrence Hammond (Jennifer) of Hamilton, MT; Louise Riddle (Kenneth) of Indianapolis, IN; Steve Weigel of Wausau, WI; and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.

Funeral services will be at 1 pm on Saturday, January 9 at All Saints Episcopal Church with James L. Sharp and Virginia Sharp officiating. The family will receive friends for an hour preceding the service. Burial will be Monday, January 11 at 11 am at the Mountain Home Veterans Cemetery in Johnson City, TN. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made in Adam’s name to IAVA (Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America), 114 W 41st St., 19th floor, New York, NY 10036 or donate@iava.org

He may have only fallen now, but he’s fallen in battle just the same. At the going down of the sun and in the morning, we will remember them. May whatever was bright about his life continue to shine in the lives of those who remember, and the darkness he walked through be forgotten in the everlasting Light.
