Joe Louis Hutcheson

by DFH Inc. on 12/28/15

Joe Louis Hutcheson, of Morristown, departed this life on December 22, 2015 at the Life Care Center of Morristown after a lengthy period of declining health.  He was born on May 28, 1937 to the late Willie C. and Annie Evans Hutcheson as the fifth of eight children.

At an early age, Joe was baptized and joined Saint Paul’s Episcopal Church, Union Level, Virginia.  At the time of his death, Joe was an active member of New Beginnings Ministries, Whitesburg, Tennessee, where he enjoyed singing.

He received formal education in the Mecklenburg County School System, where he was a member of the 1958 graduating class of East End High School, South Hill, Virginia.

As a young adult, Joe met and married Osinia Williams and from that union, they were blessed with one son, Kenneth Hutcheson.

Joe began his employment career as a Tractor Trailer Driver.  He later secured employment at Kenlea Craft Furniture Factory in Kenbridge, Virginia.  He remained a dedicated employee of that company for the remainder of his employment career.  As a result of several promotions, Joe was required to relocate to Waynesville, N.C., North Wilksboro, N.C., and finally to Morristown TN in 1980, where he worked until his retirement in 1999.  He retired as a Sample Engineer/Material Expediter in the Engineer Design Department at Lea Industries, a division of LADD Furniture, Inc.

“Big Joe,” as he was frequently called by close friends, enjoyed helping his neighbors and fellow church members in any way he could.

Joe was preceded in death by his parents, Willie C. and Annie Hutcheson; sister: Martha Woolridge; brother: Willie A. Hutcheson; step-mother: Alvester “MaVes” Hutcheson; and step-brother: Kenneth L. Holloway.

He is survived by one son: Kenneth Hutcheson of Greensboro, NC; two grandsons: Lesean and Rommell; two sisters: Mildred Woolridge of Florence, S.C. and Magdalene Hutcheson of South Hill, Va.; four brothers: Nathaniel (Claudette) Hutcheson of South Hill, Va., James (Carolyn) Hutcheson of Hampton, Va., Norman (Mary) Hutcheson of Owings Mills, Md., and George (Dera) Hutcheson of Rosedale, Md.; three step-sisters: Mary L. Stewart of Sutherland, Va., Christene Holmes of Baltimore, Md., and Carolyn (Henry) Smith of Baltimore, Md.; and a host of other relatives and friends.

He also leaves to cherish his memories a devoted and dedicated friend, Phyllis Blevins of Morristown, Tenn., who was always there for him during his period of illness.  Joe’s family is eternally grateful that she stood by him as a friend and caregiver on behalf of his family, all of whom lived in other states.

Memorial Service will be on Tuesday, December 29, 2015 at 5:30 PM at Dockery Funeral Home.  The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM to 5:30 PM at the funeral home.
