Israel Huerta, 89, died in his home Friday, July 7, 2017. He was born January 24, 1928 in Santa Olaya Bayamon, Puerto Rico to Paula Gonzalez and Isabel Huertas. He moved to New York City in 1948 where he met Juana Rivera in Brooklyn and married her on February 14, 1951. He was baptized as one of Jehovah's Witnesses on December 21, 1973 in New York City. On September 1, he joined his wife in full time Bible Ministry. He later moved to East Tennessee in 1991. Shortly thereafter, he began to assist the Spanish-speaking community in learning Bible truths. Because of his efforts and because of others, there are now seven Spanish congregations of Jehovah's Witness in the region. During this time, he also served as Elder in the Morristown congregation. Many of his close friends and family enjoyed his unique sense of humor. He was a faithful and loving companion to his wife of 66 years. He had the sure hope of a promised resurrection here on a paradise earth. His family and friends look forward to welcoming him back in paradise on earth. This was a hope he shared with others throughout his volunteer work. (John 5:28,29) He will be remembered for his zealous activities and his love for his people. He was preceded in death by siblings; Louis Huertas, Alberto Huertas, Paula Huertas, Jose Dolores Huertas (Lolo) and Buena Ventura Ruiz (Tula) and their son David Huertas. He is survived by his wife, Juana  Huertas; siblings Isabel Nieves (Seda), Efrain Huertas, Luz Maria Pinero, Raul Huertas and Carmen Brillon; children Frankie Huertas and wife Blanca, Yvette Villa and husband Carlos, and Israel Huertas Jr. and wife Darvella; 17 grandchildren; 56 greart-grandchildren; four great great-grandchildren and countless spiritual children and grandchildren. The viewing and receiving of friends will be Tuesday, July 11th from 5 to 8 p.m. at Dockery-Senter funeral Home. The funeral service will be held on Wednesday at 10 a.m. at Morristown Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witness. 2519 Reeds Chapel Road, Morristown. Burial will immediately follow service at Hamblen Memory Gardens.
