Deacon Charles H. Carr

Charles Henry Carr, 84, of Morristown went to be with the Lord, Wednesday, July 15, 2015. He was a true man of God and a friend to everyone he met. His sweet spirit was apparent to all who knew him. Born September 6, 1930, Charles was a member of the United States Army and was a veteran of the Korean War. He was employed by Berkline for 35 years as an upholsterer. Upon his retirement, he was an upholstery instructor.

He was an active member of Bethel Missionary Baptist Church in Morristown. At Bethel he served as a deacon, Sunday School Superintendent, District 1 Brotherhood President and member of the Male Chorus.

He was proceeded in death by his parents Henry and Bervelee Carr; wife of 44 years, Shirley Ann Carr; sisters, Francis Murphy, Laura Reese, Johnnie Lee Carr, Chastity Carr, Gladys Dockery and brother, Robert Carr.

He is survived by his son: Andre’ (Carmen) Carr of Cleveland; daughter: Celeste (Eric) Hogue of Morristown; grandchildren: Shelley, Kaisey, and Jorde’ Carr, Jamere and Cenyia Hogue, Leon Cody and Maria Mills; great-grandchildren: Leililani and Kaleena Goins, Tylen and Jorden Templin, Dakota, Caman and Five Cody, and Kataruh Mills; sisters: Alzora (Charles) Rader and Shirley Davis of Knoxville; brothers-in-law: Edward, John and Joseph (Roberta) Patton of Morristown; a host of nieces and nephews, great-nieces and -nephews, and great-great-nieces and -nephews; and special friends: Patricia “Punky” and William “Bunky” Clark, Minister David Taylor, William Fugate, Jacquie Watkins, Steven Templin and Andrew Newman.

Homegoing services will be Tuesday, July 21, 2015 at 1 p.m. at Bethel Missionary Baptist Church, 1800 Cherokee Drive, Morristown. The family will receive friends from 12 noon to 1 p.m. at the church. Interment with Military Honors will follow the service at Hamblen Memory Gardens.
